 WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
 
This program supports students wanting supervised hours toward professional work as a drug and alcohol counselor. 45 hours of academic instruction based on TAP 21 Knowledge Skills and Awareness  
 
The classes are facilitated by an instructor and the student will need to gain 255 hours of field practicum work under a practicum supervisor.


This program is designed for alcohol and drug counselors, social workers, case managers and other health care professionals who want to enhance or develop the knowledge and skills necessary for professional practice in alcohol and drug studies.

 

Students completing this class will receive a certificate of Practicum completion for on the job supervision that will lead to being a professional alcohol and drug counselor.

 

The Practicum Module is part of a Comprensive CAADAC Program.  If you are enrolled in the WRM-TA Comprehensive Program, this cost is included with the cost of the program

 


 Course Cost: $499

Includes registration fee ($50), course material fee ($20), tuition ($429), certificate of completion.

  • The basic and advanced tasks and responsibilities that constitute
    the work of an addiction counselor
  • Competencies and Practice Dimensions
  1. Clinical Evaluation
  2. Treatment Planning
  3. Referral
  4. Service Coordination
  5. Counseling
  6. Client, Family and Community Education
  7. Documentation
  8. Professional and Ethical Responsibilities
  • Review of 12 core functions of a counselor
  • Oversight of completion of 255 hours of supervised practicum
  • Focus on the importance of cultural and gender responsive services within the following dimensions

      The primary instructional strategies used are self-directed learning,
self-assessment, lecture, peer exchange and reflective practice.
 
These concepts are woven together using sound instructional design
methodology.
